About

Playing for the Planet is an alliance of over 50 video games organisations from around the world, committed to taking action for the environment.

Founded in 2019 at the UN Climate Summit in New York, the initiative is facilitated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Playing for the Planet supports the video games industry to reduce its carbon emissions whilst using its unique storytelling power and influence to spread messages of environmental action

All members of the Playing for the Planet Alliance make commitments that range from reaching net-zero carbon emissions to integrating environmental  messaging into their games, with year-on-year reports on progress.  At the same time, the Alliance provides resources, research and guidance to help studios and the wider industry meet their goals.

By putting aside competition and working collaboratively, studios can find better solutions to climate change than they can alone.

The Green Game Jam is run by Playing for the Planet. Now in its sixth year, it’s an annual challenge for video game studios to engage their players on environmental topics. This year, our focus is nature.

The goal? To harness the power of video games to inspire as many people as possible to act for nature. Last year we reached 100 million players across 48 games - but we’re only just getting started.
